I agree on all that. But if you read around here, a lot of folks are clamoring for these artists to go indie. The problem is when an artist is indie, that's even LESS outlets for their music to get out there. Target and Best Buy aren't stocking many indie albums unless you cut a distribution deal with them. iTunes is obviously the way to go but without a really good promo game, iTunes can't really do much to push your sales without outside ground work.
So add all that up... rap artists are left out to dry in a lot of cases. Meanwhile a rock or pop band can be made to be larger than life with every release. Word to Swift and One Direction. Hip-hop has to find that market they had a lock on back in '01-'05 again.
