upfront. sorry for this depressing answer
from late 60's to early 70's.. miles davis put together new groups to play loud, aggressive msuic
now personally i like it
but my girlfriend- not knowing the source- was like "what's all that noise?? they're horrible, they can't even play"
i couldn't findisle of wight perforamnce but just as an example
now, say what you want, but the members of these groups went on to have tremendous success and acclaim
with gold records, grammies, etc.
so they could definitely "play", and htey learned how to make groups and projects of their own
^that's relevant because you can build up a small empire
a team devoted to excelling at a purpose
but when you step away.. do your pledges make it on their own??
or does it all fall apart??
another example- at one point, half of the head coaches in the nfl were proteges of either tom landry or bill walsh
not only did those two men coach super bowl winners
but they put on new coaches who later went on to win super bowls of their own
that's enough evidence to write off mere coincidence
people like miles davis, or landry+ walsh are special
so.. it has been a mystery (or maybe a disappointment) to me that many of the people i tried to bring along
to this point, none have come close to reaching my past accomplishments
we would be successful in teams, but it doesn't continue when i step out of the captain/leader role
i think it is a flaw inside myself that i can't replicate another generation of winners
maybe i am not systematic or rigorous enough in my approach
or maybe that i have been more lucky than good
