in regular-people terms, a dude getting killed before hes about to go off to college is a bit more heart-wrenching than a dude getting killed in-between prison stints.
As it should be. I love seeing black people going off to college, it makes me proud. We have enough black wannabe athletes/rappers, we need more wannabe Doctors, Lawyers, Professors,etc.

Look, I'm not sitting here saying that an athlete dying isn't a sad thing, but put what they do in perspective. They are good at a sport, THATS IT. How have LeBron James or Michael Jordan helped you personally? I celebrate the Martin Luther KIngs, the Medgar Evers, the Barack Obamas, the Nelson Mandelas. People put way too much value on someone's ability to put a ball in to a hoop, why is Benji Wilson's death any sadder than any of the other black males that have been murdered in his area? Again, RIP, I don't wish death on anybody, but its just sports, B.
They may not have been legit title contenders but they wouldn't have went through a period of having one playoff berth in the eight years after that either. I'm not acting like Reggie was on a Jordan and Magic type level. But I do know he was a very good player and him being there in the 94 through 96 seasons as the centerpiece would have at least made the Celtics a playoff team.

That young black professional will prolly help me out a lot more in life than the man that's going to on to make millions playin ball, make even more millions by sellin his brand to my kids for at least $150, refuse to autograph my same kid that's increased the value of his brand because of his no nikka's movement, and then make cacs hate me even more because he only go after their woman.

professional athletes making millions tend to give a lot more back to their community than the "young black professional" who usually just pays his bills and keeps it moving.
a lot of dudes going to college don't even become "young black professionals" anyway.
Who ever said that Lewis' death was comparable to King or Evers? Did I miss the Reggie Lewis holiday or the college named in his honor? This is a sports message board. Is the death of an athlete in his prime not a noteworthy topic to discuss in this forum? Most people are touched by the deaths of people that they know or know of. Of course it's sad for anybody to die but a person you know or know of is gonna touch you more so than the death of a complete stranger. Nobody is making Lewis or Bias or Benji or any other athlete who dies out to be martyrs but as a fan of sports and a black man it's gonna touch you in a certain way. But once again I am not seeing monument erected in their honor or anything so I'm really not seeing what your issue is.
