No disrespect brother, but I can't rock with this. I have zero tolerance for race based prejudice and the HORRIFIC struggles our black ancestors went through being compared to the gay struggle. As a black man, please do not buy into this comparison because they are not remotely close no matter how much you are guilt tripped by homosexuals, "open-minded" whites or ignorant blacks unaware of their history into believing them to be.
Gays were never enslaved, denied access to school, businesses, water fountains or killed on a mass scale just for being born a skin color that wasn't white. They have their basic rights, and at the end of the day you are not going to convince everyone that homosexuality is something you're born with. Some may say that, but many feel it is a lifestyle choice and not an inevitability like race.
Do I believe gays should be mistreated, hurt or viewed as monsters? Absolutely not. They are people just like heterosexuals and deserve love, compassion, and understanding, but they are not the equivalent of being a race, nor is their struggle the equivalent of ours - past tense or present tense.
Lastly, try not to use the phrase "minority" breh. Blacks are not minorities. Nor are Asians, Hispanics, Arbs, etc. It is a phrase used to imply inferiority, less importance, "equal but unfavorable"-ness to the majority - whites. Just because there might be less of us in this continent or in the UK doesn't mean on a global scale there are less of us, so let's not dumb ourselves down by buying into that word that is subliminally used as a synonym for second-rate.
