What's confusing? You play 2 matches, won't get eliminated if you're not completely trash and play 5 knockout round games if you win.

Yes but the handful of games played in the world cup shouldn't determine the greatness of a player. Consistent performance over hundreds of games, season after season at the highest level (which means club level) is what's important.
