Will they keep their form with the pressure that means big WC elimination games though? Specially if they face an OG nation? :patrice:

It's very rare that teams that look like the best team out of the group stage are able to keep it up and win it all. shyt, I can't remember the last one, Brazil 94'?
Yeah them South American teams look good last WC out the gate but burned out. Eastern Euro teams looking good now, on for Western team to win

1st Round Playoff Exits
Senegal and Japan have had excellent wins against Poland and Colombia respectively. Akira Nishino sounded realistic, though, about the scale of problems he faces against a team that pose very specific challenges. Senegal’s physical prowess, in size and speed, was an issue bought up repeatedly. “The image we have about African teams is that their physicality is superior,” he said. “We have to cope with that. These past several days I have been telling Inui and Oshima [two of the smallest players] to gain 5kg and grow 5cm but that failed. So we have to do something else. We are going to take Senegal on using the ball. We have to use our brain rather than physique.”

They're playing the right way. Belgium is probably the most outstanding looking side, only with a trained eye can you see the issues.

A dominant, tactically sound midfield ain't going anywhere. I think France is winning this WC bevbeca they're the only team that has such a heavy supply of talent to just throw at them and a midfielder in Pogba who can play the game of his life and go to war with man like Modric.
I'd like to but we're not the best team of the tournament collectively speaking. Talent is one thing but we lack coherence in our shape and Deschamps just switched back to our old shape after entering the tourney in a 433. He basically ditched the individual talent formation up front for a more solid Grizzy-Giroud duo + wingers of two years ago.

Saw glimpses of the Belgians today and that's a notch above us and they can match up our physicality in midfield and against our defense (Lukaku looking great and his finishing his proper currently). Our midfield is doing okay though I'm not convinced by the Kanté-Pogba double pivot as Pogba still loses too much possession (while Kanté still blocking everything) and we saw that we are susceptible to counters so I'd prefer him to play higher with a man behind (preferable NZonzi). Panama bossed us around easily at times and against a more clinical sides, this won't pass. I'ma watch that Belgium-England very carefully because if Belgium manages to beat England (with its pressing and its speed), then they'll be my favorites over Spain. Only weakness I see with Belgium is Meunier who's a little too attacking and focused towards the center which could allow spaces for counters on its side where a guy like Dembele or Fekir could eat.
