Gotta be Jersey...not one good big city to its name...Newark, Trenton and Camden...yikes! and its full of industrial ponds and burnt out factories and basically the backwater from PA and NY move there

The best thing that they got going for them are the beaches...and the fact the state borders two big cities with Philly and nyc

Oklahoma, 100%. I don’t want to get into why, but living there for 4 years, my life, wellbeing, and worldview drastically changed after living there. That’s not to say you won’t learn a lot from a terrible place (in fact, you learn very valuable things), but I don’t think many could withstand the terribleness, to gain that knowledge; it wouldn’t be worth the cost.

Texas.

It’s like living around 24 million abused children who are in such denial about how crappy things here that they have to invent fantasy world where Texas’ limited offerings are somehow better than those everywhere. And not being satisfied with that, they feel the need brag about the place when they travel to other states as well as when they are here at home.

Some things:

  1. The crime here (especially around Houston) is TERRIBLE - EVERY NIGHT the news leads off with a shooting or a murder. Vehicle burglaries are so rampant that you should probably just leave your car unlocked and hope for the best.
  2. The drivers here are horrible - I have been working here for nearly two years and not a week has gone by that I haven’t seen at least a dozen car accidents. There is deadly cocktail of impatient and immature drivers who love to speed down here.
  3. The customer service here s pathetic - The young people hate their jobs and show it whenever they have to wait on you. The older people hate their lives and their slack-eyed looks and slothful performance is an indicator about how little that they care about the customer.
  4. The poverty is depressing - Multi-million dollar homes built next to trailer parks or ramshackle housing. The largest collection of people begging for money at freeway off-ramps and in the medians that I have EVER seen (Yes, even more than Las Vegas AND San Francisco). You either ”have it” here or you don’t. The middle class is depressingly small.
  5. The racism here is about the 1978–1979 level - Texas could certainly catch up to the rest of the nation. With its large minority population, you think that it would have already.
  6. The education system is here atrocious - I have never had so many people ask me how to spell simple words as I have in the last two years. Even though it’s required advanced schooling is beyond the majority of people you meet, meaning that the engineers and the “bosses” are the only ones who know what is happening. And this is despite having exemplary universities such as Rice and Baylor down here.
  7. Got cancer? Come to Texas..they are giving it away.- I have never met so many people who are either cancer survivors, cancer sufferers or who have had a close relative die recently of cancer. MAY have something to do with the petrochemical industry down here Hmm..
  8. EVERYTHING down here is the “biggest” or the “best” - The rest of world simply does not realize why it’s so inferior to Texas.

I have withstood this place for almost two years and I have to say that this has been the roughest two years of my childhood. I would rather go back through time , travel to South Korea (a place that I hate profoundly) and live there for the remainder of my life than spend another year in that shytpile.

F*ck Texas.

damn :picard:

A Mississippi Cotton Field
What about South Dakota. What even happens there? :russ:

absolutely nothing. :mjlol:

But no, I knew some cats from the dakotas who were working in "Oil Towns".

Basically these towns had oil fields and the like, workers were paid like 30 bucks an hour, towns would spring up like the ones you see on interstate offramps. Just hotels, fast food, clubs and gas stations. All the workers highly paid. 12 bucks an hour at Waffle House.

But cost of living is sky high, and the workers would tear up the towns at night to "blow off steam", a lot like the old west. Cause there was nothing else to do.
