Yeah the one episode with the lizard dude was really dope, but other than that it sucked. I was a massive X-Files head too. Some of my earliest internet memories were scouting online with a 56k modem on AOL for news about Fight The Future (the movie that dropped between seasons 5 and 6)

And this is the thing. It was exposed because Chris Carter and them made an amazing TV Show for its time. The Sopranos came along and all these years later we've been blessed with shows like The Wire, Breaking Bad, and countless others. The bar has been raised so high, and TXF is simply not on that level. In order for TXF to be dope in 2017, they'd need to be on something like FX or AMC. Then on top of that...

Chris Carter and/or Duchovny and Anderson.

Reboot the show with some fresh blood. Maybe have Mulder and Scully on the occasional episode as grizzled veterans, but get a couple of younger agents assigned to the X-Files. Just start a new mythology.

They're trying to take a 90's cultural phenomenon and they're trying to make it work not even a just decade later than when it premiered, but over 2 decades later...and they're trying to do it by not tweaking the formula very much.
