12 Days to go. It's not happening folks. This should inspire every up and coming rapper in the game. You don't need labels no more. You don't need A&R's anymore. Just get your fanbase and build it up. The Internet is your Label. Use it. Cause when Major artist can't move units to save their lives, times have changed. Macklamore had the right idea and now he's caking independently. Independent is the way to go. What a Pathetic year commercially for Hip Hop. One of the worst Ever. Well 2013 we got some heavy hitters up to bat. Eminem dropping a new LP. Jay dropping a new Solo. KanYe Dropping a New Solo. Wayne new solo. Drake new Solo. Watch the Throne 2 maybe. But it's sad that only the Big names are going to really do any damage. The game has changed. Again if you are an up and coming rapper. Get your social networking and internet game up. That's the key to breaking in this game.

The final Certifications for 2012:

Pink Friday Roman Reloaded (Platinum*) *Has not sold but shipped 1 million copies
God Forives, I don't (Gold)
Good Kid, Maad City (Gold)

The lowest overall sales for Hip Hop since the 1980's.
:wow::wow:

Not a good year for hip hop at all as far as sales but there werent too many CD's that were worth buying anyways. Some hot singles but thats it.

Good that means more real hiphop. :stylin: Love seein commercial artists flop. Not like the albums being released are classics anyway.

If next year Em, Jay, Ye and Wayne numbers come in really low then we should expect the trend to sadly continue. Gold is the new Platinum for rappers. But again I hope this does open the door for more quality to shine. Labels obviously do not have the answers anymore. The pumped that Nicki album so hard and it's still stuck at 700k.

Labels and the artists who are getting old dont want to let go of the power. They dont want to let the new artists in to set the new trends. The old fogies want to be the dictators and gatekeepers of the culture and unfortunately this hurts the market. All it does is create a new market outside of the bubble. Of course these elderly men will still try to intrude on the new bubble but hopefully their efforts are stifled and the next gen gives them the finger.

Rappers have some of the most tech savvy fans, hence most people download their shyt.

Adele, pop music etc. has that base of white women who don't know shyt about technology and buy it

Kendrick went gold, but had the buzz, response, and accolades of a multi platinum artist. The music is still reaching the people, just in different ways

The biz model is different. You now have nikkas w/ no albums owning rolls Royce's and mansions. Back in the day you had nikkas that was double plat and in debt w/ the label..

So "record sales" to me are for the company..

Truth. Heard that Jay-Z is one of them oldheads that hate to see young artists do their thing.
