Nas is the only vet moving units this year. :ahh:

Yea but I'm very disappointed in "Life Is Good" sales overall. NaS should of been Gold but sadly he just didn't have a single that took off. It will eventually go Gold in time. NaS had an amazing Platinum Run. 8 Straight Platinum albums including The Firm LP. It's sad that NaS may never go Platinum again. With that said, NaS was the only NEW YORK Rapper to hold it down on the Charts in 2012 outside of Nicki.

In a perfect world Nas Kendrick Lupe Ross albums would always be platinum and the MMG compilation would be gold along with Killer Mike's album. This has been a great year for quality, it's just to bad it's not reflected in sales.

I agree we had a lot of gems this year but there was still more trash overall. I think the Commercial Market curtains got pulled cause even Pop Fans are rejecting rap now.

Forreal. In this day n age for Nas to be out this long and have a run he's had is Piff. Should've been gold right now off the strength of the album's content alone. That's :myman:

If you think about it, it's always been a singles world. Even back in the day, you had to have a hit single to really push your LP. But the difference is fans are even more fickle now and they have most options how they listen to music. Also back in the day, a full body of work always seem to outshine a hit single but now it's not like that. Kendrick is proving that people do want full cohesive projects again. So Nicki can have a 3x Platinum single with "Starships" but is crawling to Platinum with her whole LP. Sure we can blame it on downloading but the fact is quality is also an issue.

Fans across the board have rejected a lot of this generations Hip Hop. Only a few artist are moving units anymore. Sure across a lot of genre's it's that way but even Pop still has it's sellers. RnB still has a few sellers as well as Rock. But Hip Hop few sellers are dropping way lower than other genre's. At the end of the 90's, Hip Hop was the highest selling genre of MUSIC period. In a little over a decade we've become the lowest selling genre. Again, sales don't determine quality but Hip Hop power in the mainstream has decreased dramatically. Hopefully this will be a destroy and rebuild era for Hip Hop.

SMH @ the fickle nature of people. Hip Hop is the b*stard child that had popularity in high school (the 90s), but grew up to be an underachiever (nowadays).

It's not adele fault though cause she did drop a quality album. What Adele did prove is that in the download era an album can sell massive units.

And Adele is over-hyped (just not feeling her music or voice) & the "great white hope" for the pop/R&B genre now which is why she has sold so many records to date. Plus her target audience (which are majority middle aged Caucasian women in the suburbs) for whatever reason aren't attempting to downloading her songs for free.

:win: Yet all the good artists are caking off tours and putting out the music they like.

The majors are getting what they deserve, by not giving us diverse hip-hop for a long time. The time of the SouljaBoy's and the corny Ja-Rule, Chingy era is over.

Long overdue, great music comes w/ less commercial success

N@gga you straight tripping, Ja-Rule had mad skills, he doesn't even belong in the same sentence with Chingy and SouljaBoy!

:wow:
