Since my last job had me a an independent contractor I'm not eligible for unemployment benefits.
No COVID-19 check
No Unemployment on a state or federal record
Income dead in the water.
No savings.
And to top it off this cracka Trump banned my people Nigerians from getting visas and traveling in and out so I cant see my family anymore (not that it matters anyways)

I’m in NYC. It took 3 days. I applied on the 3rd. Claimed on Monday and got the money on Wednesday.

Not necessarily. You may have been misclassified. An independent contractor is a very specific thing. If you don't meet the requirements then you were a defacto employee and are eligible for unemployment benefits. Look here to see if this applies to you:

EDIT: Also, you should still be able to get COVID specific benefits even if you are an "independent contractor".
