I agree people need to be less fragile and be more sturdy, have more "grit", more tenacity, etc.

But we also need to look deeper and ask WHY so many people have anxiety, WHY so many people are depressed. You can't have all-time high levels of income inequality, a race based caste system, all kinds of social and political divisions and totally new ways for people to feel inadequate (for example not having an iphone or not having a "popping" social media presence) and wonder why mfs feel anxious. Becaause they feel they are being judged by their peers...and they are. I guess we do need more "i don't give a fukk what you think" energy...but we ARE a social species.

Mental health awareness is a good thing, but it has become a primary focus of so many. Yes, we have issues. Yes, we need to get to the root of them. Not just to better understand ourselves (which is where a lot people stop at) but to understand how we are to others as well.

Just examine yourselves and strive to be more righteous. See others as human and move accordingly.

Aside from the fact that the world we live has progressively become more stress inducing and dissociative...

Is that the 'mental health' industry and niche is flooded with INFORMATION. Understanding your problems can be useful, but when people think of the 'mind' and 'mental' they're thinking of the brain, the intellect, the routines, external shyt. Nothing about the conversation is ever about EMODYIMENT.

Same thing with "spirituality". So many people are disconnected from themselves, so dysregulated. You can talk about some shyt for 20-30 years and never get beyond it because healing has nothing to do with mental minutiae, it's about the body and nervous system regulation. Without that (which is what most of this talk is void of) you will be stuck on a hamster wheel.

Mfs on this very site promote mental health and supporting other black men but then you got them same mfs accusing a black man of scamming when he’s just asking for help :mjlol: you wonder why black men suffer in silence and die young

I agree with this. Its why I think yoga can be very useful. Really any kind of movement based practices with or without community that has the intention of allowing your body to feel grounded and free can do wonders. I was also reading a book on how the lack of sufficient rights of passage in modern society has a lot of people feeling like they don't have "roots"

The truth is, toxic behavior is often normalized.

And while acknowledging a problem, issue, or disorder is one part of the equation, actually taking steps to gain mental clarity or seek proper intervention is a whole different challenge.

It takes work. Real, uncomfortable, consistent work.
Facts, facts, facts. Having the right therapist makes a difference.

A lot of people I have worked with do well with somatics when they actually give it an honest go.

Even something like you said, rights of passage, have somatic effects on identity and regulation, safety, belonging. Nothing we are doing as a society is making it any easier for people to get even a slight grip on their sanity, just saying everybody is too soft and talks too much isn't the answer either.

Kinda ironic but we ended up having an amazing event with some elder Black psychologists. As has been said a lot, diet and immediate environment has a lot to do with the mental health crisis right now. When you’re a junkie for ultra processed foods, ultra processed realities via social media, and weak support systems or an inability to recognize who’s worthy of being that support vs who isn’t.

By those metrics, Black communities all over the world are in severe condition and we have to collectively recognize that and address it first starting with ourselves.

When you’ve experienced “the dark night of the soul” and you survive (come out the other side stronger)…

There’s a certain level of introspection and realization some people never reach, even in old age.

This life isn’t easy, but it’s better to walk the path with your eyes wide open.

Yea. :wow:

It’s one thing to acknowledge you have issues, quite another to just use them as a crutch or allow those issues to define you or run your shyt. Also, I think people get exposed to new words not realizing the seriousness behind the word. It’s like calling something a revolution when it isn’t one at all.
Facts. The amount of people who say, "I'm OCD" because they like to be neat , is crazy.
