the wonders of the free market. isn’t capitalism great?

Ha well...the public isn't putting money as much into music b/c it's more ubiquitous. Everyone is making music and it's so easy to get it b/c of streaming. People want music NOW and even if they do it will only stay on the chart for a few weeks now compared to the 80s and 90s where a record would stay in the Billboard for months.

We sort of did it when we started pirating music lol. I think it was good for technology though, but maybe not good for artists. But artists can make money other streams due to their likeness. I do hate that many of them have to sign 360 deals though.

Fans fukked music because nobody wants to pay for music anymore. Unless you’re Taylor Swift or somebody else at the top you can’t make money in music That means no drummers no guitars no bass players just engineers slapping together beats from 30 years ago on a soundboard. And all the people who laughed about pirating movies and music and CDs because well they can find money elsewhere. Well this is what you get.

Had a friend in college who got real good playing guitar even had himself a little band. performed live for a bit but after a while this is when everyone started pirating music. can’t make music anymore with the streaming shyt. He ended up working at a pet shop and he went from novice to studio musician level in about three or four years.

is it really that much different than it’s ever been?

I mean most bands in the 60s weren’t putting up Beatles numbers and money

And in the 90s most bands weren’t doing Nirvana or Alice In Chains numbers.

Were there a lot of rappers doing 50/Nelly numbers back in the day?

Most of them were settling for the middle, and if they got a hit or two in their discography they were chillin :manny:

in the 90s, mid level rappers definitely sold more than similar artists of the present era, but the latter are also in a digital age that affords them a reach the former didn't have - which translates into greater show money.

They are clamping down on everything now.
They don't want you to have money unless they can control you.

We're going back to a world where resources are more important.
Money is just an illusion that's controlled by the bankers.

No. Music used to be life. Judging music and its popularity because not everything was the Beatles is silly. Low end music acts back in the day make more than many high end acts now.

What is back in the day for you?

Do you have numbers about the money made by producers and artists in the past?

I don’t see how this debatable.

In 90’s R&B you had Boys II Men, Jodeci, Whitney, Janet, Prince, En Vogue, BBD, Aaliyah, Brandy, Guy, I can keep going… it was absolutely stacked.

Yet during this time mid act like Soul For Real in the 90’s peaked at no 23 on the Billboard 200 and still sold plat.

And this is just one genre. :damn:

Meanwhile acts like Sexy Red who have had hit songs in the current day can’t sell platinum.

Among this year's Summer Jam headliners, Sexyy Red's project, In Sexyy We Trust, sold 27,000 equivalent units, it still secured the No. 17 spot on the Billboard 200 album chart.

Music had a grip on American culture for the longest. A lot of this is before my time but if you study you’ll the culture is night and day. In the 70’s they had so many music shows on tv: American Band Stand, Soul Train, Solid Gold, Sonny and Cher Comedy Hour, Midnight Special, all this shyt. Jackson Five were so popular they had their own cartoon. Music was that entrenched into culture.

Remember 106 and Park or TRL? Bro. Music RAN shyt. There is no modern comparison for how much music moved culture back then.
