I only saw one, which was an MRI and lengthy write up in 2012 talking about how the mind closes down a certain part of the brain which disallows conformity, therefore allowing the MC or the musician to do their thing. But there's never been a study strictly on freestyling.

I freestyle/write too. But to string together perfect sentences or at least comprehensible bars, while being in rhythm, totally not being prepared whatsoever..... is really some next level ish, if you take time to think about it.

Most people can't even handle speaking without thinking about what they said, let alone to be in rhythm and rhyme.

During freestyle rapping, the researchers observed increases in brain activity in the medial prefrontal cortex, a brain region responsible for motivation of thought and action, but decreased activity in dorsolateral prefrontal regions that normally play a supervisory or monitoring role. Like an experienced parent who knows when to lay down the law and when to look the other way, these shifts in brain function may facilitate the free expression of thoughts and words without the usual neural constraints.

Freestyling also increased brain activity in the perisylvian system (involved in language production), the amygdala (an area of the brain linked to emotion), and cingulate motor areas, suggesting that improvisation engages a brain network that links motivation, language, mood, and action. Further studies of this network in other art forms that involve the innovative use of language, such as poetry and storytelling, could offer more insights into the initial, improvisatory phase of the creative process.

Great post. That makes a lot of sense since freestyling requires people to let go of inhibitions and say what comes to mind without "supervisory or monitoring" roles getting in the way.

Now what nutrients are there that would aid these parts of the brain and what nutrient or herb would suppress the dorsolaterial prefrontal region?

I'd hypothesize that MDMA does the trick

Hard skill, takes practise I feel and a good vocabulary helps and a versatile style and just getting it naturally and being able to feed off the energy and have that emotion carry you through. Freestyling is a skill and talent in and of itself, have seen some great freestylers over the years, I like people that keep me interested with styles, wit, punchlines, flows, energy, lyrics etc. I commend people that are good at keeping going but what really impresses me is high quality, adapting flows and styles on the spot and dropping potent shyt. It's interesting also to see some dudes who are great writers aren't the best freestylers and sometimes the best freestylers aren't the best writers, a blessing when can do both on a high level, that's ideal.

Thank you.

Well I know the marijuana makes you get funky.

Iont rock with MDMA so I wouldn't know.

I wonder what other kind of exercises would help develop the prefrontal cortex, they say improv from jazz.

Where does the mind draw these scenarios from? Is there a certain type of pattern that our minds are programmed with, almost as in a hypothesis formula.
Are we using words that we use often?
How are we imagining these things?
The senses of Rhythm, how are we able to connect these rhythms to that of the beat, without knowing whether they're suitable or not? Your mind has to be able to make some sort of connection and then perceive and imagine something for you to be able to even spit just that flow.

There's a lot of things that would be interesting to learn about this.

The weird thing is that!

I was studying Music Theory last night.

And to flow requires this sense of music theory. If you think about it, and maybe I need to work more on my points but.

From what I read a word could be considered a note right? Words said at different ranges, making notes equals to phrases right?

So we have this bit of musical theory encoded in us, that is naturally retained and enhanced as we freestyle more.

I Freestyle, and I write. I don't have a microphone set up yet so no music. But that may come later.
