2003 was the last year that we've had classic albums.

classic mixtapes? sure.
classic albums? nah.

and I say this because:
1.) there aren't any albums that I can honestly say are better than even the most borderline classic albums.
2.) none of these so-called classics of the past 10 years would be held in the same regard if they came out in better eras.
3.) im not into crowning something a classic by default. just because it excelled against weak competition. im like the BCS rankings with mine.
4.) its unfair to all the superior albums from better eras that never got that look.
5.) its a disrespect to history.
6.) it contributes to the lowering of the bar......the bar which has been lowered below sea level at this point.
7.) its just all-around tacky

doesn't matter. Hip hop fans have pissed on the word "classic" much it doesn't even have the same meaning anymore. Classic is just a code word now for "album I really like"

using your criteria though, you'll never find a classic album again because you'll never wanna acknowledge it. You'll never be able to fathom that someone today can make an album as good or better than the stuff you grew up on. It's OK. It happens to everyone. It just means you're getting old.

He was literally in the 4th grade when Illmatic dropped yet all up in threads acting like a historian tryna school nikkas:dead:Ol "What was the album nikkas were rocking while playing with pogs in the schoolyard" ass nikka:pachaha:

not at all.

classic mixtapes continued to drop long after 2003. if I was biased over nostalgia, I wouldn't acknowledge that.

Like?

and given how things changed dramatically when it came to mixtapes since 2003, you'd expect some initial standouts. It's not as if it's easy to compare say Trap or Die to a DJ Clue mixtape or something like that. The mixtapes aren't made the same way anymore so in reality you only have the last 10 years to judge mixtapes as we know them now.

i participated and experienced more of this culture BEFORE 4th grade than you've done as an adult. i don't know why you lil herbs like to set your head on a swivel like this. its mind-baffling. that's right. i said mind-baffling. i had to create a new word for you sucka-ducks.

and lol. you name-droppin art barr, but he wouldn't even cosign your line of thinking in this post, seeing that he himself was participating in the culture long before 4th grade.

you don't decide if an album is a classic or not.

the culture is what gives the classic status to an album and a lot of them have been in the classic debates. The culture changes, for better or for worse, so let's stop with the "it's not respectful for the history"

Just to name a few:

The Documentary
College Dropout
Food and Liquor
Below The Heavens
Good Kid mAAd City
Be
My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy
The Cool
Cuban Linx 2
...

no one cares if you agree or not, what is "considered" as classic will be classic, they represent a generation, point blank.

tapes like trap or die were around in the '90s. that chit is nothing new.

and even if they weren't, how would that even support the point that you were trying to make?
