it's easy to flow on a beat when you're not really spitting any complex rhyme schemes or metaphors... he's just basically "swaggin" over beats

I'm a fan and I agree theres nothing special about him as a rapper. He just swags over a track and says some fly sh*T and has good beat selection.
Everytime he does a feature he gets eaten. What Q did to him on PMW wasn't nice and like 25 niqqas ate his food on 1Train
nikkas came with the heat on that shyt, but I think Rocky's verse is kind of underrated. KRIT and Kendrick were exceptionally nice, but Rocky's verse was structured very well. Kid can definitely flow.I kinda consider myself an A$AP fan and I agree that there's nothing really special about him either.
He makes good musicI'd say that having his own certain style (even if it ain't that unique) kinda helps him to be more consistent.
Plus, imo, he has also improved 'lyrically' if u compare his album to his mixtape or A$AP Mob mixtape.
This. People think music has to work one way in hip-hop and this is why there's such a great divide (especially in this genre). Music's like marijuana. Some shyt is sativa, some shyt is indica, and some shyt is a hybrid.
If you want a raw flow-based, lyrical brain-buzz, go listen to some sativa shyt.
If you want some well-produced shyt that makes your body react for a body-buzz, listen to some less lyrical indica shyt. Nothing wrong with that. That's the beauty of music.
Rocky is a hybrid. He isn't super lyrical or constantly hitting you with metaphors. He's just riding a beat and weaving through it stylistically with a mixture of influences from different regions. He doesn't feel like he has to be strict with it and that's what's dope about it.
He's for people that are into fashion and fukkery. I know kids from the hood that get money and get into the boutique lifestyle that love A$AP Rocky because they can appreciate his knowledge of their interests (fashion, being from the hood and being different ("Rare"), being flashy/artsy and taking risks but still being ignorant when you want to be.

yeah but he doesn't make it work. it sounds more like a ripoff or a failed homage than a good representation. you're not even really supposed to sound like other rappers anyways.
his music isn't even really that amazing to make up for all his flaws. the chopped & slopped hooks and nice beats have all been done/heard before. a rapper like kanye's music is good enough to make up for anything he lacks at, asap's doesn't. we've all seen & heard his flows, beats, rhymes, subjects, clothes, i just don't get it
and btw, ASAP CANNOT rap. he's never impressed me with a single verse in my life. all his verses involve some gun reference or money, p*ssy, weed reference. like, all of them. he's boring too. and btw, he IS saying retarded wack off-beat shyt

I hate to agree since I like LLA but let's be real, he's the epitome of being at the right place at the right time. His beat selection is second to none but dude is just a little above average and far from unique or special as an artist/MC.

Rocky has established himself as a braggadocio rapper, just like pioneers of the genre like BDK, Rakim, LL etc. So I don't see why people get criticized for this today. Not every artist has to spit about thought-provoking shyt on each record. Music is still entertainment at the end of the day. I don't understand how that dweeb can talk about appreciating Lil B and not being able to appreciate Rocky in the same vein. He sound like a struggling artist mad that Rocky got hot on image and good marketing
