Are you reducing Black experience to only crime? I live in a Black middle class neighborhood in the 80’s. It was a nice-looking 60’s built suburb with single family homes. Mostly hardworking good people but some drug dealing went on and the occasional shooting. My next door neighbor had a bullet go through with wall while he slept one night. People were tough..you had to fight. There was a mix of blue collar workers and professionals, and a few bums/degenerates.

That being said, it was still middle class life and we didn’t want for bare necessities and we had realistic options in life. That experience is nothing like that of the people that lived in the innercity and the projects who essentially locked into occupied territory with no autonomy, lacking basic resources and often subject to random violence and fear intimidation as part of life.

You are the one doing that because you have this tv idea of what a poor person is.

Cacs have created this environment. Nggas are fatherless, broke, hopeless, too emotional (from being raised by single women), etc. Cacs created all these hoods, you see across the country. Sadly, most folks aren't strong enough to make it out, and will succumb to their environment (one way or another). It's not "entirely" your fault, you're not strong enough to make it out, either. You're just a product of your environment. If you grow up amongst degenerates, wolves, crab in the barrel MFers, and low-lifes, it might fukk up your trajectory in life, too. I think nggas, just don't see a way out, or believe it can happen. It's hard to imagine some shyt, you've never seen, or been exposed to, too!

We're not even touchin the music side of things/culture, and I've grown up off street/drugs rap. At a certain point tho (enter CHI...), it turned into complete murder raps, and ultimate levels of disrespect. The type of shyt/words, men can't come back from (if you consider yourself a man). Don't got the answers either....

It's hard when so many bodies done dropped, and all nggas can see is RED. Retribution, revenge, and vendettas. You can't tell someone how to feel about their bro, cousin, father, son, etc. that just got gunned down, up the block.

I wish we would get it together as a ppl, but as far as that goes...I'm hopeless. I don't see no end in sight, to the perpetual violence, no time soon.

Things have changed since the Moynihan report though in terms of housing segregation and education. By the 80’s or so there was a lot of middle class Black people growing up like the Huxtables zoned in communities with tax bases and not around the corner from dope houses.

There’s truth there that still holds true to this day of course. However, you must concede that today amongst the gatekeepers of blackness in media, politics, pop culture, and business there is very little representation of the Black poor, and a lot of Black people who grew in affluence trying to blacksplain struggles of Black poor to the masses.

That is true. Even if not close geographically we are still close culturally.

Also I would say there are not enough wealthy or upper middle class blacks to truly be separate from the poorest Blacks. The are no real "classes" in Black America like in White America when we look at the wealth numbers.

"Wealthy" Blacks still have poor family members who they support financially.

It’s become so mundane as to no longer elicit shock when it happens. In every major city, from Philly to DC, New York to Chicago, black people are dying at a rate no other community in this country sees. We read story after story of lives turned to nothing on daily basis: boys, girls, men and women traveling down an assembly line of death.

When does this carnage end? At this point, we are committing genocide on our people. It’s not white people doing it. We’re doing it. We’re celebrating it. We’re making music to it. We’re smoking packs to it.

Black America is unrecognizable to me at this point.

No we are not. Have you actually seen that stats on this breh?


The vast majority of black people are just living our lives. Take NYC for example. In a city of literally millions of black people less than 500 are victims of homocide each year. That is legit 0.025% of that city's black population. And that number has been steadily declining since the 70s. Like forrreal breh; there used to be thousands killed in homicides in that and most other US cities.


And the stats are similar for nearly every other crime stat among black people and the wider us population.


We do not have a genocide. Instead i think we have a very vocal contingent of people among the greater black population who glorify (as perpetrators) or highlight(as victims) this part of our community; but the stats dont back up the narrative of carnage or genocide. Especially as the numbers get better and safer every year(with the exception of covid fukkery of course, which is an outlier in the data set)

I’ve said it a million times, the “black community” is a myth. Why? Take away white supremacy/police brutality and discrimination and then ask yourself what really unites us other than that?

There’s a good thread about this in HL based on an article. Black people are the only race who act like our classes live the same experience. White yuppies don’t claim solidarity of experience with white trash. Black middle class people who don’t want for any material needs and live in safe neighborhoods with decent schools and public don’t live anything like the poor and lower middle class Black people to which death is a constant around them.
