There is no excuse for so many song's today to be so damn short

People always make the excuse of people not listening to the whole song or something like that for the reason so many song's today or so short. But that really isn't a good excuse is because CD Players and Mp3 players all had a skip function so I'm pretty sure people were skipping song's back then but the songs were still between an average of 4 to 5 minutes.

There’s actually a very good reason songs are so short


Metrics changed. People are more concerned about a stream than a sale. So mathematically speaking, if my song can be streamed 20 times in full or 30 times in full in an hour, it makes sense for me to make it shorter

First 30 sec of every rap song is the artist talkin shyt in the booth. Followed by 2mins of gibberish. Keep them short not tryna hear a track longer than 4mins

Spotify and a lot of these streaming services pay artists for basically the first 30 seconds of the song. You dont have to listen to an entire song to get a play. So they are making increasingly shorter songs so each track gets a play even by accident. Then if people replay the song they easily get that 2nd, 3rd, etc play without having to sit through the whole song each time. People will listen to a 10 minute song if its interesting enough to them.

And for some reason it seems to be Hiphop songs that are mostly short. I was looking at the billboard hot 100 charts and was seeing how long some of songs are on Wikipedia: and a lot of the Pop and Country songs are still 3 to 4 minutes.
