In the case of Mexico, the cartels got trained by rogue elite military units from Central american countries like honduras, Guatemala and El salvador. These elite military units were specifically trained by the C.I.A. in the civil wars of the 1980's to comunicate through violence to spread terror among indigenous communities that were suspected to support leftist revolutionaries. The indigenous communities then formed gangs to protect themselves which resulted in the M13S. The savagery of the anticommunist civil wars are the reason why societies in central america are so brutalized, and through mercenaries employed in the drug trade, that shyt spread into other countries. In south america you have a similar history of savage torture employed to fight leftist movements in the 1970's. Google guerra sucia or Operation Condor, the military and secret services used to throw people alive out of helicopters.

Yes and no. M13S started in L.A., but it was started by refugees who had fled the civil war and who build on structures established in self defense back in central america, which then got mixed with L.A. gang culture and reimported to Central America through deportations.

I have a very good idea what I'm talking about since I worked on these issues in and outside of the region. That the gang got it's name from a street in Los Angeles doesn't mean that it wasn't build on structures that existed before it's members migrated to the US, so you might want to read up on the history of the civil wars in central america and how they are connected to todays drug trade before you try to shyt on people with half knowledge:yeshrug:

the civil war in el salvador didnt lead the people to form gangs
the deportation of gang members from the US did....
MS13 members in south america dont fight against the government...
they mainly extort civilians since it took hold there

stop trying to take historical facts and inject your personal ideas into them.
I know people in the Salvadorian community in LA that witnessed its growth in both countries first hand
