Every social media site and company is doing this and I don’t think it’s just a cost cutting measure. The internet marketplace is shrinking. Revenue splits are being reworked, price of streaming content going up. They selling more of your information than ever. The pandemic tech job boom and then layoffs.

i'll just write this everywhere...google is disabling and deleting email accounts for those inactive for 2 years, by the end of the year, and because google accounts are connected to youtube, a lot of those videos from 10+ years ago may belong to owners who long abandoned those channels...youtube is hemorrhaging money because a ton of videos get uploaded to their servers but only a small fraction comes out net positive to offset their storage fees, and to make youtube more profitable for investors in the age of competing against other tech giants, a ton of videos will be deleted at the end of the year...start downloading old videos and re-archiving them because they wont be available soon, and wayback machine hasn't been able to store old youtube videos recently ever since adobe flash was discontinued https://www.npr.org/2023/05/17/1176602395/google-deleting-accounts

old vids get archived fine, the web player for many of them broke cause an archive.org engineer made an oopsie. they're repairing it but it's a many month long process.
