And truth be told its been like this for a minute.

When is the last time fans complain about production being bad on an album?

It just doesn't happen anymore.

So no matter what your lane is Budden, Nas, Lupe, Schoolboy Q.

You should not have bad production.

A$AP, Schoolboy, Freddie Gibbs, a washed up Jay-z and Rick Ross...best beat selectors in the game :ehh:

Schoolboy production wasn't great.

You forgot Drake and The Game

Eminem's album had pretty shytty production.
em is the king of bad production.

But I always assume his music isn't meant for my ears

I agree, to an extent. you can go on youtube and type "___ type beat" and you got kids in high school making FIRE beats.

but its more so about choosing production that fits you and lots of rappers be using production that doesnt fit them or compliment them. not so much "bad production".

"Bad production" is subjective unless you're talking about actual production value, and that has more to do with the recording budget than anything.

For the most part I agree (sometimes people will say a Nas track has garbage production but it doesn't bother me). But there's nothing subjective about this. Anyone with ears can tell that this is :trash:. This gives me a headache.

No everyone agrees that Em had bad production. So does Joe Budden and Lupe.

Production is the one thing in rap that isn't really subjective.

No one thinks Ross raps over bad beats or some shyt like that

production in rap is absolutely subjective moreso than alot of genres because rap has huge divisions. guys who worship stones throw arent going to listen to someone like drake or meek, guys on my spectrum who are old ninja tune/mo wax/acid jazz/talking loud guys love the dj krush/dj cam/portishead type tracks and are not interested in trap because alot of that stuff is rooted in jazz and fusion.

i wont even talk about the anticon/aesop rock type cats who basically like white nerdy rappers with no sense of flow, rhythm or narrative.

i personally can tell you as a fan and as a producer, i dont enjoy overproduced stuff from certain artists i wont name, the trap/synth sound isnt for me.
