The best production don't come cheap. I bet a lot of these rappers don't have the pockets or the budget to get a beat from a top of the line producer unless it's on some favor for a favor type shyt.
There's no excuse for bad production in 2014.

but music is music. you are talking in the same tones that alot of guys from the drum and bass genre judge things and thats from an engineering standpoint. from a sonic perspective things are great on all ends, but are these new crop of producers more talented than your classically trained pianist who can orchestrate ACTUAL MUSICAL CONCEPTS? No. Very few producers stand out. Even me, i sound like some cheap version of alchemist/dj krush.

or is this coming from a person who just does not like differing types of rap production in different genres.

Production is a dime a dozen these days. Theres dudes that no one has ever heard of, or will ever care about, that can make a better beats than most of the top producers. It's all about who you know and if you're marketable at this point, but I guess thats just part of the game.

Kanye, Just Blaze, and Swizz Beats might be able to ask that much, but it's only Top 40 pop charts rappers who are gonna pay that kinda money for them.

bullshyt, ive heard better production lately from no name youtube and soundcloud cats than i have big named producers.
asap got some of the best production right now, and they mostly use no name producers.

Definitely, it's crazy how many producers and "producers" there are out there, these guys have no choice but to basically take what they can get.
Any jackass with a USB record player, a MIDI Pad controller, and some recording software (including myself) can make beats and come up with something at least half decent.
