If you lined up every NBA dunk contest that's existed, you'd see they were bad more often than they were good.
You had Mike and Nique giving you excellent showtime, with couple more stars joining in the 80s.
Then the 90s dunk contests sucked, like all of them, even though it had couple great names like Kemp.
Then Vince Carter brought it back, followed by excellent Jason Richardson performances. Even Dwight one was cool in 08.
Then mediocre again until Lavine and Gordon. Now after that it's back to mediocrity again with irrelevant names.
That situation where Wade gave a Miami Heat player higher score made quite a few quit the dunk contest cause even those judges can't rate them dunks properly.
Nobody cares about this contest anymore. No star wants to fail the dunk attempt cause they care about internet gossip, no star wants to risk getting injured.
3pt shootout also loses its appeal when Sunday main event will be nothing but 3pt shootout with no defense.
