Don't blame the refs. This is the rules committee. They want hand check essentially eliminated from the game.
I've talked to a couple D1 refs, and they say they know it's going to be ugly early...and they know fans are going to hate them...but their bosses want it like this.
I expect that the players will adjust and the so will the officials, and we'll find a medium. Too many games were turning into hack fests imo. See: Louisville last March.
