This is what happens when you have a generation that is completely removed from the roots of hip-hop as a culture. They only were cognizant of the commercial era and see hip-hop as a means of getting famous as opposed to really crafting their art. That's why the youngers ones that are talented stand out as much as they do.

Spot on post, and its only gonna get worse because todays young parents are listening to nothing but bullshyt themselves and will pass that down to their kids. Atleast us older heads had parents that bumped music with substance. Thats including R&B also. Todays generation dont even know real r&b. I disagree. Not that cut & dry. Once the white man saw how powerful and influential this new genre was, they saw the potential to use it to their own benefit. Which they continue to do till this day:



Hiphop is arguably the most powerful artform on the planet, and when utilized correctly its a wonderful tool to uplift, inspire, motivate and educate. Our oppressors (assuming you are black also. You guys need to stop lumping all young nikkas together. I'm 19, and I mostly listen to old school hip hop/R&B. All my friends get on me and think I'm weird because I listen to old school music so much. I try to get nikkas hip to Big L in the car and all hear is "TURN THAT shyt OFF!" smfh.

Nothing is ever gonna beat the 90s. Raw boom bap and G-Funk even southern hip hop sounded better and more soulful back then to me. I like trap/drill music too, but it's oversaturated and that's all you hear being played nowadays.

Hip hop just doesn't hit the soul like it used to. Plus, nobody cares about lyrics anymore. It's all about sounding catchy over a hype beat and "crankin."
