You probably thought they could not fly, because you did not know a lot of times a wing is clipped to make them unbalanced.
Never had to clip any wings. Kept plenty of chickens. They don't fly often at all.

If you keep free range birds they will roost in the trees at night. We (well, my ex) have some that roost on top of the house, lol
