Got a call yesterday for a Desktop Support job
They said what am i looking for in terms of salary
Gave them my current
They said is it negotiable because all we can offer is and gave me a lower number

I was like sure just to get my foot in the door
Then I was like :stopitslime:
I ain’t taking no pay cut to do more work
So I call back and say politely I can’t take it please call me back when you can match my current salary
So she was like so if we can match you’ll be good?

And now I’m like well bytch gimme more
And she gave it to me

started acting thirsty

but they tried to do me dirty dirty

how you going to try to lowball me on my current salary and then act thirsty?

Never go back!!! If they say the pay isn’t what you want thank them for their time and keep it moving. Them calling you for a job doesn’t mean you’re any closer to actually getting it anyway.

I also don’t follow up with them. If you call and submit me for a role, why do I have reach out for the status?!? If I don’t hear anything, I assume I didn’t get it and move forward.

This reads like both of you need to brush up on your negotiation skills. Just saying.

I always give 10k more than what I'm currently earning. It's easier to do that when you look at the salary ranges and add more skills/certs to your resume anyway.
Last three job hops I've done 30k+ more and received it each time. Most people don't negotiate at all though.

Make them give a number first. They will continue to ask in different ways and apply pressure, but I've learned from past mistakes similar to OP to never provide the number first. I also used to give my salary + X%, but I don't do that anymore either.

If they ask, just respond with "What does the position pay?" Sometimes they will tell you, often they go around it and at that point I'm dead set in never providing a number. If they keep asking just say something along the lines of "There's a set salary range associated with this position regardless of the number I give" and ask for a number again.
