Make them give a number first. They will continue to ask in different ways and apply pressure, but I've learned from past mistakes similar to OP to never provide the number first. I also used to give my salary + X%, but I don't do that anymore either.

If they ask, just respond with "What does the position pay?" Sometimes they will tell you, often they go around it and at that point I'm dead set in never providing a number. If they keep asking just say something along the lines of "There's a set salary range associated with this position regardless of the number I give" and ask for a number again.

I've also learned in the past to let potential recruiters know you have options (even if you need to fake it).

I used to be one of those people scared to say I'm interviewing for other positions when they asked me, but I found that when they know you're in demand they're more likely to cooperate and wanna take you on. It may sound like common sense, but you'd be surprised the amount of people who miss out because they don't want to reveal that info.
