Between the comments on news pages, and all the race related events over the past 5 years or so, I had to wipe out my entire white friend roster.
It started with Trayvon, and got worse from there. White people I considered family, including white people who have helped me in life were saying all kinds of out of pocket things, and then when I had a negative reaction, they had the nerve to say I sounded hateful.
I would encourage supporting black businesses and they said I was encouraging segregation.
If I talked about being racially profiled, they said I can choose to be a victim.
I talked the confederate flag and one said it was about state rights, not slavery, and he really thought he was dropping some world class knowledge.
Meanwhile they can say whatever they want to say, and expect us to just take it. And they think telling us we’re one of the good ones is a compliment, as if we’re expected to put them on a pedestal as the gold standard in morals and behavior.
Those experiences and comment sections forced me to come to the conclusion to have no white friends. I just can’t risk it. I treat everyone with kindness and respect, but as far as allowing them into my personal life, I can’t do it.
