Firm pass. I'm sick and tired of Hollywood and television deciding the only times they can tell non-slavery related black stories is by shoehorning black people into an existing franchise. It's lazy and literally never works. You turn off original fans of the show/movie/etc and more often than not the black people you're aiming for have never heard of the original show. Add in young white people not being familiar with it either and you have a product with no natural audience/interest.
What is so hard about creating original content with black people and black stories. Every year Fox/CBS/NBC green light dozens of lily white shows that won't last two seasons. They can't try some black shows, from black creators?

I think I heard Lee Daniels is producing it so there likely will be a gay son. Coli is not going to like that

This was one of those shows that I liked, but I can't put my finger on why I liked it. 
Obviously the music was great, but it was essentially 5 seasons of watching a simp get shot down over and over again. I'm hard pressed to remember a "good" moment for Kevin on the show; dude was always on the shytty end of something.

I’m guessing it’ll be set in the 90’s or even the 2000’s. That’s the only way it can workis there an audience clamoring for a show set in the 1960s in 2020?
