Also the section where Yo-Yo and her prostitute friend were pretending to blow/Jack off the guys in the cars whilst secretly communicating, was a nod to negro spirituals being sang in the fields to secretly get messages across. That way, the overseers didn’t get suspicious.

Or maybe I’m reading too much into that scene?
