Human beings have breaking points. All of these stories youre going to get are designed to do one thing and one thing only and that thing is to make you say "we left too soon. Let's send soldiers over there again so they can put in democracy and human rights" you are legitimately a hopeless fool if you end up falling for it. When the time is right, the afghans will do what other people do and say 'no more' and begin putting their lives on the line for a better future. They will have several false starts, but they will get there eventually. Democratization is a process that takes hundreds of years. You cannot force it. We won't live to see it but they'll either become an authoritarian police state like Iran or China, or an illiberal democracy like Egypt or Jordan. If we are lucky they might become an actual democracy with transparency and secular values. But again, that shyt ain't happening before 2150.
