Two things hurt Ainge.

1) he didn’t want to make improvements on a strong Celtics core
2) he decided it’s better to constantly try to rob people in trades than make the Celtics better

Stevens did the exact opposite of that and they win a championship.

Ainge created disconnect between the fo and coaching. Whereas Stevens is smart in every possible way from fo to coaching. Plus was able to garner fluidity between the fo and coaching. That ainge had obvious disconnect to.

Ainge gets some credit.

Robbed the Nets and built the foundation with the Jays. Took Jaylen who was an unpopular pick when he did it. Could have also taken Fultz which was what everyone wanted him to do.

Horded enough picks or picked enough decent players so that when Stevens took over he had enough capital to make the moves to put the team over the top.

Ainge drafted Tatum AND Brown..

Stevens traded for White, Jrue and KP...

They both deserve credit and really it's just a testament to how well the Celtics organization is run. If you want to look at an organization and see ok... how can we get better? You look at the Celtics.
