Probably because they wanted to keep it to the legendary artists that WOULD have twenty hits.

That isn't the point. How many Southern acts were appearing on East Coast albums in the 90's? They could've literally had their pick of Southern acts to work with, but Eighball & MJG were who they went with and this wasn't their only showing on an East Coast album.

That was then. This is now. People know who UGK are and they know Eightball & MJG in 2021.

People outside of their audience don't know their music, or even their singles.

And none of those songs were popping, not even on a huge album like Harlem world. They couldn't even blow when they were signed and pushed by diddy.

It started focused on producers and songwriters - they had 20 tracks, especially the producer/writers who were also artists. Then it went into big artists (of their times) who had 20 tracks between hits, features, and well known album cuts. Now that we’re into more mid size artists, that’s where 20 can be a bit of a stretch for some.

But at this point, if the match up makes sense - like UGK vs Ball & MJG - then it doesn’t matter if they have 20 hits as the audience it will attract mostly knows both their catalogs.

anyway, I think VZ is played ATM. It made a lot of sense during lockdown - I think they should pause until late fall when people are back in the house a bit more

The only rappers ducking verzus are Jay, nas and it looks like rakim ducked Kane.

They just t have a way of doing bullchit. Like the wutang versus wutang stuff. And putting Trina up there over a ton of more worthy females.

I think a ugk-mjg battle could be snuck in after they do bigger battles from that era of t he South. A variation of no limit/cash money is what the people want. They don't even have to clash the crews. They could just do something like juvenile/mystikal to get the ball rolling.
