He comes off as a generic hack which is why I can't quite put him up there with Jordan Peele, Spike, Mario Van Peebles, Singleton, Hughes Brothers, Hudlin, Issa Rae 🫢, Townsend, etc....

Although Black Panther 1 was good, it was kinda plagiarized from The Lion King.

With all his films, it feels like it's not enough meat or depth, pause. It's surface level writing unless you have a prolific actor like Majors or Boseman to fill that void.

With Fruitvale station, MBJ has a natural Oakland accent so he was naturally able to play himself.

With Just Mercy, he was in the south with an Oakland accent and Jamie Foxx made the movie great. It's moreso that I think MBJ is an overrated actor and Ryan is a mid director.

I liked the rawness of the vampiric look in comparison to the typical archetypes.

I also found it creative how vampires inhabited a town where it's night for 1 month and capitalized off it.

It's up there with From Dusk til Dawn and the True Blood series for me.

It's based on a comic series.

Music DOES play a significant role, but it's moreso used to color the scenery and setting. Or inform about who these characters are.

Grease is a musical. Idlewild is a musical.

Sinners is a drama/thriller/period piece where music has a presence.

Movie is amazing.. so many different layers to it.. so many different elements and concepts. MBJ did an amazing job.. you can really tell the difference between the two different characters

And when you thought the movie was over it wasn’t.

Honestly wish it was a TV series so we could have more!

This is a movie you gotta watch multiple times.

Naw, the singing fits perfectly into the movie and even at that the singing is so minuscule compared to the entirety of the movie.
