Why are black students always at the lowest scholastic levels? Very disheartening.
On average black families are the poorest and least educated as a result of said poverty. A lot of education comes at home and if momma barely knows how to multiply then. I've seen it first hand:manny:

Or if Daddy is out working two dead end jobs does he have time to help with homework ? :manny:

Definitely not affording a tutor :manny:

More important than all that above...

I'd like to add, as someone who has attended a majority black PRIVATE elementary school, majority public white elementary and majority black publicbmiddle and elementary schools in the NYC system(moved a lot when I was a kid)

We also have a culture of promoting nonsense. Where book smarts are seen as lame and nerdy smh.

The white and Asian parents especially actually give a shyt about their kids education more often than the black parents. Only at the private school did parents give a shyt(which is understandable if you're paying thousands of dollars to send your kid today school, not the same for public) Just go sit through parent teacher conferences and look at the attendance of the parents. The ones who consistently came saw their kids score higher grades as they ensured work got done.

A lot of nikkas won't agree with what I said but it's the truth :manny:

Nope. Asian parents work like crazy too. However their kids know they better do well or face punishment.

I believe there is a pervasive lack of accountability in black households in regards to education. Its unfortunate.

This is a good move. Many schools have a system I. Place called tracking where they decide what kind of student someone is and teach to that level. Therefore, if you’re seen as gifted and talented, you will receive a better education than someone seen as regular or remedial. The structures that determine who goes into what classes are extremely biased and set students of color up for failure off jump.

By getting rid of GT classes you are essentially saying that everyone deserves a high level education. With the proper supports kids can and will do well in GT classes even if they are labeled as lower.

My mom and sister both taught in NYC public schools(East New York) and they always said this is the biggest problem. It's the households.

400 years.

Education and uplifting rights/liberties should be two areas Quadrennnial African Americans should be yearning to do, because our ancestors fought and died for us to realize freedom and be enlightened/educated to the maximum.

Poor parenting is the cause. My parents had us reading books everyday. They bought computers for us, letting us play educational games that increased our literacy, math skills and typing. When finishing our homework, they’d score our answers and educate us where we were wrong. A lot of black children are born to failures who don’t value education. :francis:

As someone who's been in majority black schools all my life in NYC, an extremely large portion of nikkas don't take education seriously at all:francis:. Mindset plays just a big a role if not bigger than poverty does when it comes to education. The average nyc black hs kids ain't taking there shyt seriously, its as simple as that.

Yall gonna come in here with excuses though:coffee:
I'll be honest with you. I was in a NYC t.a.g. program and at least half of the kids in my class were in foster care, an inherently unstable situation. So you have a lot of naturally smart kids who can't find a quiet, calm corner of life in which to fukking think, plan a future, etc.

Second, for many, there is no obvious path from 'smart in school' to the good life. Only a handful of the kids i went to school with progressed as they should have. Parents didn't know the next move and so they went from a tag program to a regular ass, NYC hs.

My pops had a blackboard he got from a scrapyard to teach me and my sister on. Stayed up late at night to help us do our long-ass homework too.

He had that belt ready tho if I was putting my all in it though.

:obama:
Kids need that, all the way to HS. Tough job.

I had a blackboard too. I was failing algebra and moms wasn't having it. Studied, flirted with this smart Asian for free tutoring, ended up with a solid B. :ehh:

That common core math shyt needs to get cut immediately!!!:stopitslime:

If what is being taught at school is not reinforced at home, then it's an uphill battle. I'm talking values and skills, not content.

Yep, most of the Asians come from homes where their parents speak little to no English, send them to the same public school system, yet they are scoring higher in English than everyone else. They switched from the old way of doing math to common core math and they still score better than everyone else. Home environment and values continue to be underrated in these discussions.

At my high school, we had low standardized test scores in reading, so they split our gym quarters to make 2 quarters of gym, 1 quarter of health, and 1 quarter of critical reading.

They also had extra math and reading courses for 11th grade kids with lower scores added into our regular schedule before taking the HSPA. If we reached a certain score, we could replace those courses with another course for the second half of the year. I outscored both sections.

I’ve always been good with speaking proper grammar, but never had the patience to sit and get through all the questions on those long tests.

I will say, the biggest factor in using proper grammar is how your family speaks at home. If we didn’t speak properly, our parents corrected us. Black people tend to eliminate conjunctions when we speak.

For instance:

We here
Where they at
He sleep
She big as hell
Where them cookies

And don’t get me started on the past tense of see being said as “seen”.

We seen them

NO, you SAW them

With so many single parent households, and even two parent households where both parents work full time, nobody is checking to make sure the kids do their homework. This is why I have no problem with having a wife who stays home. I think a lot of men are so worried about a woman being a freeloader, but don’t consider the impact a stay at home mother has on a child.
