From a Somali perspective, I fully agree. Everyone, including the Kurds themselves, who are pursuing their own interest through national/ethnic lines are willing to entertain less than savoury alliances if it helps them in the big picture. But Ilhan is representing Minnesota and she is showing extremely poor political judgement wasting political capital this way. Her entire party voted one way, why on earth should she abstain? Ilhans vote for or against will have zero impact on Turkey-Somalia relations. And her explanation for her vote was embarassing. Sorry breh but Ilhan constantly shows she wasn't ready for the big stage and shoudve spent more time as a Minnesota rep. Idk how she couldnt see the backlash coming on this.

She visited him as a state rep and the discussion was Turkeys support for Somalia. It wasnt a secret meeting by any means and its very public knowledge that Turkey is in popular in Somalia and among Somalis because of its bilateral support that exceeds almost every other player.
That being said 1) she isnt representing Somalia/Somalis and has already taken positions that do not align with views of her community, so not sure why she held out here 2) poor judgement to accept that meeting if you had national political ambitions 3) even worse judgement voting against the whole party with a wishy washy justification, when youre taking no prisoner positions on everything else.
Y’all gonna learn to stop propping up these politicians like they anything but human. One day.
