:what: If you aren't living the good life in DC on +100K you HAVE to have a shyt load of debt and VERY VERY VERY unnecessary expenses :what:

This is true also. A lot of times when two professional people get together one person in the relationship is bringing 20K or more in student loan debt. That's always something to consider. If you are making 100K or more and it's only you, debt really isn't a problem. You should be able to pay that off and still live very comfortable at the same time.

Unless you nggas can't multitask!!

Don't make me talk about DC life. It's going to make me cry.

I used to park in Metro parking lots but stopped to save money. I would park in a neighborhood across the street and walk to the Metro station... just to save $5 a day. I was a professional IT contractor making good money too, wearing a tie and dress shoes and crap.

I would not give a penny to street performers in the Metro, not a penny. :piss:

I got friends who are livin the good life in NW on less than 60K. I've noticed you DCers tend to over exaggerate a lot. 100K in DC is not bad at all.

100K is great. But, I wasn't making 100K.

I was making 50K at first; and it felt like 30K in upstate NY.
I eventually made 70K and it felt like 50K in upstate NY.
But, it wasn't until I was making 80+K that I felt like I had disposable income for nicer things. I'm not the type that lives large too.

Exaggeration? Apartments cost way more than average. If you want to make it happen, you have to over-pack an apartment. 4 people in a 2-bedroom apartment. Or you can live in a low-rent apartment, that's not living the good life.

Being new to the city, I gave $12 to a panhandler one time. I felt bad for her.

I don't even stop now :shaq:

Side story. I was getting chinese at the spot over there by HU Hospital. I pulled out a wad of 20s to pay for my wings & this bum azz nikka came within like 2 feet of my personal bubble. shyt was mad uncomfortable.

Me: "Ayo, dunn....can you back up? goddamn" :wtf:
Bum: "Can you spare some change" :dwillhuh: :ohhh:
Me: "Hell no" :heh: :childplease:
Bum: "I just seen you pull out a bunch of money" :birdman:
Me: "This shyt can't possibly work for you bruh. You really think hovering over people while they pay for food is the way to go? :aicmon:
Bum: :manny:

I probably would've gave the chump some money had he approached differently. I was disgusted for the whole day after that.

Maybe you are doing it wrong? Lol. I just don't get how you can be broke or not living good on 50k in DC. I know about the high apartment costs in DC but I'm on Craigslist now and even 1,300 for rent a month in DC will land you in some nice areas. Unless you have high debt I'm not seeing how you aren't making this work, especially since you don't really need a car (unnecessary expense) in DC.

There are some bad, bad bytches down there. As in legitimately good looking, in-shape black women there. As long as you don't act thirsty or act like a goon, they will give you a shot.

To me you it may have some bougie people and some real hood people but if you can mingle with both groups it's one of the best places to live in the country due to the location. You can go to southern maryland for your middle/upper middle class blacks and the support their business's. You can go to northern va, specifically Fairfax, springfield, Annandale, Falls Church, to eat at ethnic restaurants and spend time with other cultures.

You can then go to Philly and chill there on south street or Baltimore at the inner harbor. If you don't mind a 4 hour drive or just take Amtrak express for a slightly shorter trip you can go to NYC and chill in Manhattan or the other boroughs. I can't think of any place that has three MAJOR cities so close to each other. It's the perfect location for someone who doesn't mind going different places that are so different form each other every weekend instead of staying in the same city over and over for the whole year.

The money is good in DC the only thing is the taxes and the high cost of living. MD has the highest tax rate (Montgomery County specifically) in the area, then DC then VA. So if you are planning to come to this area and make a gang of money just be prepared when you see your first pay stub and 500-600 is taken off the top just for taxes.

damn i might be moving to dc too to work at georgetown. I took a quick look at some apartments in the city and they were like 2000 for a studio. I found one that was 800 a month and the reviews said it was filled with rats/roaches and mad robberies :leon:

-VA/MD prob cheaper but that traffic is prob ridiculous. I cant imagine wasting 2 hours in traffic everyday; will all the hours i'll be working :sadcam:
