DC is a great city...I think a professional, young, black woman could have a lot of fun and build a great life out here...

But live in MD or VA like they said...somewhere where you can commute to work several different ways (carpool, train, bus, bus-train combo, walk, bike (ARRRGH)) than driving. Traffic is one of the worst in the area. But funny thing is those types of places where you would want to live (outside of DC) are all trouble spots for traffic (Waldorf, Mo County, Arlington etc)

oh yeah, come to my part of SE lol...we in the "gentrified" area or at least trying to become gentrified

WASHINGTON, DC
Lol @ these nikkas saying move to Southeast or Trinidad  Thought those areas ain't as bad as they used to be. But for an out of towner, they'd get intimated easily.

Those areas are definitely the cheaper areas of the city but the gentrification process is ongoing and things are already looking bad for blacks there that are being pushed into Southern PG County. Prices are just gonna jump if they haven't already. I used to work in Trinidad back in 08 when there was stuff poppin off every week.

I do not recommend you living in the city. DC is such a small city that having a car is impossible and paying rent in the city is much higher than in MD or VA. This is assuming you get a job in Maryland or Virginia.

My advise to you is to live in Maryland. VA is much more congested and if you live in Prince Georges County you can avoid the congestion of Montgomery County, MD and the Northern VA suburbs. I feel Charles County is too far and wouldn't be worth it.

If you going to be ballin, live in Bowie where a lot of rich blacks have made home. I'd also recommend Laurel and Beltsville since there are new developments going on there. You also are only 15 miles away from the city and the Baltimore-Washington Parkway ain't far away. You can also get into the city from Route 1 or Route 201.

DC is great but I can't stay inside the Beltway all the time, its nice to be in the burbs and have that quiet space. But if commuting ain't for you, I'd take 2Quick's advice about locations to live in the city.

Columbia Heights and Georgia Avenue areas have changed a lot. If you really ballin like that, you could live up 16th street near Silver Spring :leon:

That whole H Street Corridor is weird, it was being redeveloped, but then the economy went to shyt, now it's coming back. It's almost like you can see the gentrification in motion.

this is true :ooh:

you see all these boutique and urban chic shops up and then the H street theater. Then it just stops and its back to the hood :heh:

Just a heads up. You probably won't get into the "black elite" just off your profession. You don't have the right pedigree and if your from the hood, everyone will pick up on it quick. Just focus on being the best you. By the time you get to where you are going that stuff won't matter.

Either you are born into or not.

Maybe elite was the wrong word. Im just tryna stay away from the fukking hood.

Intimidated? Nah bruh. If trouble does find me then i know what to do. So i ain't worried about that. What Im worried about most is just being somewhere nice and having the chance to hang around good people.

DC seem to have too many uppity snooty type of blacks. Not my kinda crowd :manny:
This. Had a argument with a few peeps at work about this. Seems like peeps in this area have a huge sense of entitlement. I know a few who are damn near bankrupting themselves to live that DC high life. Kinda sad but if I was about all that, I could see myself easily fallen prey.
I looked for an apartment, once in SE. I am proud to say I never went back.
Dog, my nikka tried to set up with this spot right around the corner from Bolling cuz I thought I was getting this gig at NDU. Checked that shyt out. Stepped out my car and saw just pure despair. Jumped back in and never went back unless it was for a Nats game or my intramural alum league on the Yard.

Man just move out to Fairfax like I'm about to do it or get a spot in Kingstowne. Close enough to the city but far away from the fukkery that comes with District. And you get the same diversity but not nearly the good ass food they got over there. Good luck with getting a DC rat to come over here for fukk purposes tho. They treat Fairfax county like a leper colony
