Yeah, word... I came down from NY with a wife and two kids, so I wasn't about all the hanging out and nightlife and stuff. It was more about better opportunities for the kids and getting out of the grind of trying to make it in NYC. My wife often asks me how our lives would be different if different things hadn't happened, and I know for a fact that if I was single or didn't have the kids, we'd still be in NY. We love it here though, but make sure that it's right for your situation and don't come looking for something that you probably won't find.
Raleigh is an overgrown college town. There isn't much in the way of the arts and independent music, etc. A few concerts here and there but the main attraction to the area are the Universities. Traffic is horrible, especially if you have to go anywhere before 9 AM and after 6 PM. As far as entertainment there are a few things here and there but the main things are restaurants. I'd honestly advise against it and move closer to Atlanta. I'm currently working on getting OUT of NC but good luck if you come down here.
Google FiberThat wasn't my point at all. I own a business, so I don't care about the job markets, I take care of myself.Cannot cosign this. You think traffic in Atlanta is better than here in Raleigh????? Word???? What people gotta realize is ATL is no longer a secret. EVERYBODY knows about it. 5 years from now ATL IS GOING TO BE PURE LIVING HELL because everybody and their mama is migrating there from all up and down the east coast NYC/NJ/PA/DC/VA/NC/SC are all going there with the same plans of living a better life. shyt IS GOING TO BE OVERCROWDED, the job market is going to get tight, rent/property is going to sky rocket based on supply and demand.
I've been in Raleigh/Durham since 1999. Get on the ground floor if you looking for long term. My homey set up a bar/lounge called Smokin Grooves that people in the city worked avidly to support because there is nothing like it in the area. His type of spot is a dime a dozen in ATL in Raleigh it's unique so he get's mad business. Me I work in TV/Film on the side so I got a TV show debuting on WRDC 22 next week and me and my partner were in a bidding war with Fox50 over the show because they need more orignal urban programming locally. You think I would get that deal locally in ATL? I also do work in real estate providing 3d virtual tours for real estate companies. I only did it cuz my homey in Real estate said the only person who was doing it worked for a rival real estate company so somebody needed to get that money why not me?
Point blank is this. If you are an employee then go to ATL and work for a company but if you a boss then come to RDU and provide a service/business that people need that is not supplied here and get in on the ground floor.

moving to Raleigh in May, any suggestions on parts of the city to check out for living? or just general impressions/tips you guys have to offer would be appreciated. I'm more familiar with Durham, but they tried to do me like Pac last time I was there so thats a no go![]()
areas, just like any city, but there are also some nice spots to live in. A lot of it depends on where you plan on working and what you are willing to sacrifice in terms of commute. I have a 10-15 commute to work every day, and I telecommute twice a week. I'm not really trying to sacrifice that for a house in the surrounding areas like Clayton, Holly Springs, Apex, Garner or Hillsborough. Plus my mother lives real close to us, in an active adult community in Brier Creek (that's a good neighborhood to be in,depending on what ya money situation looks like) I'd say almost anywhere in North Raleigh or NW Raleigh you should be good. The traffic on Glenwood Ave can be a bear from 7:00 to about 8:45 with everyone headed to RTP, but it's
We're actually thinking about moving to Durham, looking at a couple houses there. Durham is slept on IMO. There are someareas, just like any city, but there are also some nice spots to live in. First, thanks for the descriptive response
I'm going to have an office in/near the north hills area so anything 20 minutes or less would be preferred but im flexible. One of my boys in Raleigh also recommended the Brier Creek area is it a lot of brothers out there?
Honestly, not that I've seen, unless you talking about the apartments. One time I saw Sidney Lowe jogging by there when he was still coaching at NC State. The only reason I recognized him was because I rarely saw a brotha jogging by that area. I got a homie at work that stays at an apartment by Brier Creek Elementary, he digs it. Commuting from there to North Hills you should be good since most of the traffic on Glenwood is going towards RTP. Even then once you get on 440, it should be cake commute-wise.
