Thinking Ja Morant can’t be tough because he isn’t from the projects is the biggest issue I’m seeing rn

The physical, mental and emotional toughness to become a professional athlete should be enough.
The community gotta’ stop measuring ourselves by our capacity to do violence to each other.

Facts. I’m from Charleston and have fam in Sumter. I’m sure he’s not a “square” or whatever but he probably is overcompensating.
Yea everybody got some family in the shyts, country nikkas be as wild as city nikkas.

Been to schools downtown/North Charleston/goose creek so I spent PLENTY of years around both the street nikkas who actually needed to be that way and the burb nikkas like Ja who just practice being a super thug since there's no real consequences out there

The burb superthugs are the worst by far. These nikkas are the ones who ACTUALLY get influenced by rap songs fr fr :mjlol: so there's really no telling when they're gonna do some crash dummy shyt, the consequences don't exist in their heads cuz they never seen nikkas get done dirty or locked away up close before

When you actually in the bricks it's WAY easier to predict who's gonna do what and when IMO :hubie:

Two parent home. House. Suburbs. Private school. You're god damn right I'm gonna say he was never from the streets and never a thug. This is something that happens to a lot of black boys and young men in this country, where they first embrace their blackness by embracing stereotypes they know little about. In order to fit a role via peer pressure coming from fellow black boys, black girls, and white kids. Kids are impressionable and they conform to social stereotypes or trends in order to fit in. Anyone who has been to middle or high school knows this. We've all seen normal girls become "mean girls" to fit into that set. We've seen regular boys pretend to be from the streets. We've seen quiet kids become goths.

Some of that shyt is harmless or simply a phase that is dropped eventually. I'm not gonna be concerned if I have a kid who starts wearing black and listening to metal. But I am gonna be concerned if I have a daughter who viciously bullies other girls for not being pretty/cool/fashionable. And I'm gonna be concerned if I have a son who starts talking about opps and slimes and traps. Because that shyt is destructive, regressive, and he will know nothing about it (outside of music, which I can't control).

If you judge a book by its cover you're going to lose. There were athletes in high school who were really on that BS. Omar was the baddest MF on the HBOs "The Wire"...had the whole west side on his head and got popped by a 10 year old in a bodega buying cigs.

If you want to risk your life testing people for no reason you're no better. If you wanna pull someones card be ready for the consequences.

too many people talking bad about Ja trying to be this and that. The even bigger issue is black people assuming any black Person not from extreme violence or poverty is being a “wanna be thug “ just because he isn’t soft.
Not so much tough but stupid.

Could move in a way that brings heat at the wrong place at the wrong time where innocent people can get hurt because a young man wants to portray an image.

It's serious

Imagine your loved one out at a party and an immature young man creates a scene leading to their death because he can't stay in his lane. The boy wants to be a black klansman and he's basically taunting the streets to create problems for himself and people around him with his antics.
