I then started thinking that every good Muslim I know irl has peace of mind. Why's that? They aren't even bothered by the little things I or my friends fret about all day. I just want a simpler life
Gonna research the religion online for a week and then speak to a few people, and then go to a Mosque and speak to the Imam and if by then I'm not 100% convinced I won't convert.
Will report back.
Listen, if you believe that God is one, has no partners and is nothing like the Creation and that He is perfect in ALL His attributes without any deficiencies then you're basically halfway there.
It's an easy way of life. You don't need to be baptized.
Something within you recognizes that there is more to you than your physical existence. This is why you're searching for truth and purpose. Just like your earthly body needs nourishment and this nourishment is of its kind (earthly), there is something within you, call it your conscience, spirit, soul, mind, whatever, that needs to be nourished. This "thing", this aspect of your existence, is not from this world. It's not physical. It is not satisfied with the physical pleasures of this world. It's why you still feel empty if you try to fill that void within you with physical pleasures (women, parties, cars, jewelry etc). It needs to be close to the source of its existence and it yearns to go back to Him. It feels estranged in this world. You need to nourish your soul, breh.
Some of the Core beliefs in Islam:
1- God is One, and completely unlike His Creation. Anything that can be imagined is by definition not God. The only way to know God is through Revelation and the attributes that He revealed therein. Our intellect can lead us towards the realization that God is One and that our existence necessitates that there must be a Creator as well as some of the attributes of that Creator (omnipotence for example), but beyond that you need Revelation to know about God and what He wants from you.
2- God did not create this complex universe and everything in it without reason. Acting without purpose or plan is a sign of deficiency and we already established that God is free of all deficiencies. God is far removed from acting without purpose.
3- God sent a long list of prophets and Messengers to every nation on Earth. Some we know about, particularly the Abrahamic ones (Moses, Jesus, Abraham, Mohamed), others we do not know about. Their core messages were the same however: worship God, alone, and do not worship anything besides Him.
4- the earlier Nations corrupted the message of their prophets and Messengers after they had passed. Some outright rejected the message, others (particularly the wealthy, literate class) changed it to suit their desires and kept the masses ignorant of the truth.
5- God sent the final messenger Mohamed (pbuh), a direct descendant of Abraham (pbuh) through the lineage of Ismael (pbuh) with the final message to guide ppl back to the truth. The core message is the exact same as any other prophet, however, this time it cannot be corrupted for various reasons:
A) in the previous scriptures, religious knowledge was concentrated amongst the learned scholarly class. This new message has no organized clergy and every layman is expected to study and understand the basic principles.
B) access to the scriptures was severely limited in previous Nations, now it's with the masses and millions of people have memorized it by heart across multiple generations and all over the world.
C) the direct teachings of the prophet have been preserved and passed down diligently and entire sciences are dedicated to preservation and authentication.
Anyway, the most important thing to keep in mind is that your relationship with God is the most important thing in Islam. Ask Him to guide you with sincerity and humility, completely break your own ego when you pray and humble yourself immensely. Just ask Him to guide you to the truth and that which pleases Him. Then proceed to sincerely investigate with an open heart and mind.
