integrate this technology into airpod speakers/microphones and suddenly the entire planet can speak to one another, real life Babbel fish

the fukkery would be :banderas: people would start moving all over the country, finally being able to get jobs in areas they like more than their home country

mixed children numbers would skyrocket :hubie: actually being able to spit your game properly overseas >>>
Google kinda had that with the Pixel buds in 2017, but that was before the explosion of AI. They probably got some new shyt coming based off their new AI tech.

Yea but the AI can imitate the voice as well which I think seals the deal :banderas:

you can just pair on the app with someone and y'all can just have the earbuds in without having to look at your phones, basically working like a regular phone call once the tech advances and the speed is instantaneous

I need this to happen in our lifetime :ohlawd:

People always get excited about this sort of thing and then wonder out loud how they can apply it to some old world thing. Fools don't understand that everything about how the world works will change because of these technologies. And not for the better.

Like a poster said, this will make people even less interested in how other humans' minds work. Technology is making people dumber and dumber and dumber. And less and less social, turning them into narcissists and psychopaths on a grand scale. But the fools' voices are spread the widest on some divide and conquer sh*t.

People have been turned into robots so much already that they get excited about how to turn this into a "business opportunity" or some artsy project. This is only getting used to centralize power more and more. What's the point of having business opportunities when public money has been abolished and you've been turned into a slave with no resources of your own?

B-b-b-but technology has always advanced and people have always resisted change. Y-y-you just old if you don't wanna go along with it.

All monsters will seem amazing and new and exotic, until their monstrosities focus on you.

Nah..

Only scammers and crooks impressed by this weird sorcery.

there are a lot of indian youtubers who cover software in hindi or other indian languages/dialects, a lot of the software topics they cover have no english counterpart. this technology would be very helpful.

due to the fact that in some parts of the world lots of electronics sold in america are expensive to buy, a lot of indian and middle eastern youtubers also cover DIY electronics repairs that have no english counterpart. AI aided speech translations would help a lot of people who are interested in those videos.

100% this. I already have some videos and youtube channels in mind to check out that are in Hindi regarding software and algorithms.

@mbewane , I don't think language learning will be affected. At least not yet.

Most people learn a new language in order to directly interact with people in a different culture. They don't do it in order to consume their media, which is the value of this tech. So I think you will still have a bunch of people learning Mandarin because they want to do business on the Shanghai river bund, or learning Spanish because they want to serenade an Argentinian beauty. Or any other number of physical reasons.

So The caveat here is that this tech isn't useful for real time translation when interacting with a person. It's too clunky. But I do think it will get there. I'm envisioning something along the lines of integrating elon's neuralink with these AI language models. Imagine a future where you could meet a Vietnamese person or a Igbo person, and immediately have your thoughts translated into their language and broadcast them out loud from your phone speaker, as the other person does the same thing.

Such a thing would be a seamless social interaction that would abolish language learning for all but the most studious of language scholars.

Not so sure about that, nor even about people learning languages for business, as a lot of people still seem to think that "everyone speaks english". Actually the example you gave (mandarin) might be the exception that confirms the rule, how many times have you heard of someone learning hindi, arabic, french or german for business reasons?

Anyways of course I wasn't just thinking about this particular technology but about what it will lead to, as in what you're talking about. The problem is that most people have an anglo-saxon business-like approach to languages, in which a language is nothing more than a means, and just like one learns to code, one learns a language. When a language is much more than that and literally opens up new aspects of yourself and has positive effects on your brian etc, on top of you discovering not only another language, but another culture. No AI can replace that. Of course, all of that matters if one actually cares for languages, cultural diversity, culture in general, or if one only sees language as a tool with no particular interest in itself.
