Edit: I’m not a commie or anything but why are some of you brehs pro-capitalism

For everybody in this "cornbread" space, Capitalism is the cause of all problems and Socialism/communism solves all problems.

For me, it's not about being Pro-Capitalism, but seeing these same patterns of argument and analysis.

His strongest video here tells about narrative capitalism in terms of why we don't get "good" Black movies and TV shows. Why we get the same stories over and over.

It's a strong argument using capitalism as the ultimate boogie man. And he's even smart to call the counter examples niche.

But the overall analysis is incomplete. In my opinion at least.

The hidden premise is in "what we get" and "Black stories".

He is smart to not define these things, because it becomes a fight over meaning. Definition of fights are so common on the internet, if you're a veteran of online forms, you know how to recognize them when you see them.

The problem with the definition fight is that you never end up fighting about the original thing that needs to be fought out.

The answer to having " better black media" is establishing black owned, black created, and black distributed black media wholly supported by black people. That's always been the answer. If that means less CGI and less historical costumes, and less exotic set locations, and so be it.

Black excellence has never needed a white/corporate foundation. We can do great all by ourselves. I live in DC, and Go Go is a perfect example of that. In Houston it was Screw music, but generally rap music selling out the trunk. (Which was the norm for most places outside of the tri-state for a long time) Hand to hand, black man to black man.

I could go down the line with this, but living in a white dominated society does not rob Black people of agency. I digress.

He's really talking about the Hollywood machine, and I can find no fault directly in his idea of different groups getting different narrative frames.

But is he suggesting that black people don't get movies about Existentialism? Or is he saying those things are niche?

Or is he saying those sorts of stories that cross between narrative spaces can't ever be hits, because of Hollywood? Like Hollywood because it only puts specific people in specific narratives they have warped the mind scape of these various groups....

He doesn't say a word. He wants the listener fill in the blanks, because if he filled in the blanks, he'd only bring up more problems.

That discussion of what can be made for Black people is probably a life's work, not a brainy viral video. So I'm not going to fault him for not building out the argument as far as it should go..

This guy is really good at debating, really good at crafting what I would call elegant propaganda. I myself dabble in the area, so I have to give him props because he deserves it.

He's great at rhetoric, my hat is off to him.

But back to Anti-Capitalism versus pro-capitalism.

Feminists see men as the enemy.
Black divestors blame a black men
Nativists see the immigrant as the enemy.
Christians blame Satan.
A lot of a Black folks blame the white man for everything, even their own BMI.

They sound smart, but most of the problems they address end up having the same set of root causes.

Not every problem has the same origin. All roads do not lead back to laissez faire capitalism.

But when I see essayists lead the reader to that conclusion, I gotta point it out.

Recently stumbled across this guy on social media. But his thoughts are top notch the way he’s able to absorb the information and spit out the rhetoric at a way that’s very cohesive, funny, and nuanced is something else. He’s cooking 🔥 to say the least

Breh ain’t sayin nothin new. Just repackaged for a different time :camby:

I mean, I don't want to shyt to be on TV just because it's wholesome and positive

I want it to be entertaining

And I feel like in terms of tv the pendulum has swung the other way, bourgeois Black ppl have too much representation now
were you the one who wrote that article?

I’m really bored with black radicals try to invent a new game to win at instead of the one we’re playing.

I get being broke, but renouncing “capitalism” because you dont have shyt to offer that anyone would buy isn’t my problem...

Good rhetoric, but like others have said, his arguments are a bit too reductive.

Societal problems are difficult to diagnose and treat, and painting with a broad brush can do just as much harm as it enlightens. Everything can't be simple. There aren't simple answers or solutions to the topics I listened to.

That's the problem with this type of content. Most people don't want to think critically on it, and even those looking for answers want the answers simplified. It's not simple or we would've fixed these problems awhile ago.

There's usually a tradeoff that many don't want to negotiate or honestly even hear...

I suspect the true answer to a lot of this maybe too bloody and dark for some to even digest, things will have to get infinitely worse before they get better and alot of ppl will have to get left behind in the process. Can't take everyone to glory road and not everyone even wants to make that journey too

The sad thing is. You broke it ALL down but their hate runs so deep that they’ll still be in the comments calling us “victims” “crying” etc. it goes to show you that they KNOW we’ve always surpassed them in any an everything and it kills them. They know the truth and now they know WE know the truth.

State Power vs City Power: What's the Optimal Solution for Black Americans?

Having super majority population and political control over a city or county is not enough if we lack that same control over the entire state.

While cities and counties do possess certain powers, those powers are defined, regulated, and can be expanded or reduced by the state and its constitution. Some cities, like New York City and Chicago, wield greater authority because their charters were written into state law with broader delegated powers.

Under the 10th Amendment and the U.S. system of federalism, the 50 states hold both reserved and shared powers with the federal government. Cities and counties are not mentioned in the U.S. Constitution, their legal authority derives solely from their respective state constitutions.

Therefore, for Black Americans seeking lasting political power and self-determination proportional to their population, the priority must be gaining super majority population and political control over entire states or Region of States, not just cities or counties.

Native Black Americans, with a population of 46 million (out of a total Black/African population of 52 million in the U.S.), and Mexicans, with 35 million (from a total Hispanic population of 64 million), are unique among minority groups in the country. They are the only two with a large enough population to attain super majority population and political control over multiple states or an entire region of states.
