Good rhetoric, but like others have said, his arguments are a bit too reductive.

Societal problems are difficult to diagnose and treat, and painting with a broad brush can do just as much harm as it enlightens. Everything can't be simple. There aren't simple answers or solutions to the topics I listened to.

That's the problem with this type of content. Most people don't want to think critically on it, and even those looking for answers want the answers simplified. It's not simple or we would've fixed these problems awhile ago.

There's usually a tradeoff that many don't want to negotiate or honestly even hear...
Learning is hard, critical thinking is hard. it leads down mostly paths of incorrect solutions and a big mountain of uncertainty that most are not able to process and be comfortable even attempting to reconcile. So unfortunately they will ignorantly believe everything can be distilled down to a simple linear solution. But as @WIA20XX said we can have control of it, but there is a lot of uncomfortble situations and discussions that would be involved.

This is the big problem with smart Black folks and politics/economics.

Things are complicated, but to get people behind you, cats that want to lead and get things done should focus on what is simple.

This is the same issue I've had with FD. There is actual organizing in Atlanta and he rather talk about Donald Glover's misogynoir in the fictional TV show Atlanta.

There's a lot of reticence everywhere to call people to action. That's the problem

Like I said, it wouldn't take long to get to Feminist Talking Points.

1) The topic is whether Abortion/Black Pregnant Women should have children, especially when they don't have the money.

He's absolving the woman of ANY responsibility here. And there's no mention of the father involved - because matriarchy is the norm, the given, status quo.

2) And then goes into some weird redefinition of masculinity.

I appreciate bruh for touching on these things - but I've heard it all before (c) Sunshine Anderson.

the big difference between "talking" and really being about that "action". Cause real action takes time. I like the example of people not understanding how long big economic effects take to be felt for the general populus. They think once an economic policy gets implemented the next day everything changes. But you know all this. IDK if it is the shorter attention spans or the ramping up of the need for instant gratification, maybe both contribute effects, but the lack of patience and reconciling what is truly needed behind all the "theory" definitely creates that reticence once the realization that shyt is real and heavy.

I suspect the true answer to a lot of this maybe too bloody and dark for some to even digest, things will have to get infinitely worse before they get better and alot of ppl will have to get left behind in the process. Can't take everyone to glory road and not everyone even wants to make that journey too

This is pretty much where I land. Especially if you're aiming to make substantial progress in say the next couple centuries.

Agreed. And it's not just that real action takes time. The real action HAS to be intentional and strategic. Have to be ready for as many scenarios as possible. For both intended and unintended consequences. But I would guess the lack of patience is a reflection of the society of that we live in. As long as I can remember it's been this way. Only difference is more voices and more amplifiers. Would say it's harder for us to control the narrative now.

And one of my pet theories is that humans truly want order, specifically benevolent order not justice. Justice is too painful, bloody, unpredictable and chaotic. I think that sentiment is only growing stronger now that we're exposed to more.

Again, my focus is not on the people that read at a 6th grade level, but all the higher level stuff needs to stay there.

It's the un-learned that need something to do, something to make them feel like something is happening.

So if you're an up and coming political thinker, good ideas, good at presenting, can put yourself on a platform - cats like this who hate capitalism or major feminists or whatever - you push the message by doing stuff, and showing how others can do stuff.

So if ol boy wants to tear down the military industrial complex or whatever - Is he getting Black folks to start gardening, so they don't keep giving their hard earned money to Grocery Store Chains?

We getting Uncs to teach these single moms how to change a flat?
What about organizing a clothes drive?
What about getting a truck and picking up some of these couches and mattresses people throw out?

They care about Black Women getting fat, so where's the free zumba classes in the park?

More young bloods need to get up on the IT game - cool, so we setting up a Madden/SF6 Tourney and getting them to put together a network?

I've been there and done, and got the many a t-shirt and tote bag

But the people I was volunteering with, getting a paycheck with - they're going through the motions, unless cats is talmbout THEORY.

People on OUR SIDE want things to stay the way they are.

We can't forget we had people like Huey Newton and Fred Hampton who actually went to "do the work" and unfortunately had their life cut short. Unless there's some kind of militia or intelligence network to counter subterfuge I think even just "doing the work" might be pointless if it can be crushed from an outside force

I've literally ran into this very thought pattern. As a result, folks aware of this did nothing.

I remember sitting in meeting about community economics, not even an early planning stage, just spit balling - and getting set up by cointelpro became a genuine topic of discussion. For at least an hour. So we can't do a garage sale?

Not even a finger lifted, and already mentally defeated.

Churches, mosques, Nation of Islam, NAACP, all types of organizations that historically got their hands dirty, risked jail and death have shifted focus to getting corporate dollars, influencing elected officials, and policy debates.

I’m not saying we shouldn’t do the work at all, but if we’re gonna do the work just for it to get constantly upheaved then there has to be multiple steps in place. I’m just saying we can’t put the cart before the house. Was COINTELPRO not a real issue in the dismantling of the panthers?

A garage sale is easy, fundraising and asking for donations is easy, feeding and helping the elderly, homeless or orphaned easy

I’m talking about when we now have the funds and decide to overtake an industry to begin real industrialization like let’s say banking, agriculture, or power? You will be met with real force from an opposing entity. How do you combat that?

There are always government forces (state and federal + business interests + "concerned" private citizens) trying to stop people from organizing.
  • Civil Rights
  • Women's movement
  • Enviromental Movement
  • Gay Rights
If you join an organization that's trying to change the trajectory of black people, that's what you sign up for.

It's all over history, even the white history they teach in "they" schools. Like Britain was sitting back while the colonizers organized themselves... Like America stood back and let the Vietnamese have a discussion among themselves about the future of their own country...

Time and Time again, I've been in these things, and they get stuck in these endless debates and concerns.

Occupy Wall Street, for y'all that remember that, was the exact same way.

Endless, Endless, Endless discussions, clarifications, definitions, and INTERNAL fear mongering.
All that consensus building, everybody gets to talk - is straight outta of the women's movement.

What if we get set up?
What if our leader is assassinated?
What if we get co-opted by corporations?

And they end never doing anything out of fear, out of concern.

If you're running an organization that's trying to do something - cats need to focus on ACTION.

Now that I'm in DC, and have been on the mere periphery of these things - none of these blockheads have some sort of grand vision - they're making it up as they go along, and dealing with problems as they come up.

If there's some sort of great strategy or worse yet - contingency plans upon contingency plans - that's not what ANIMATES, that's not what gets things done.

Low Key, a lot of the Fed Govt failure is trying to plan every single detail, not offend every group, follow every waste/fraud/abuse/the mere appearance of...

Is there a hurricane coming? Okay, lets get some trucks and supplies in staging areas, ready to roll as soon as the storm stops.

All but maybe the figurehead and 1 or 2 advisors need to map everything out. A small council if you will.

The rank and file do not need to think that far.
The rank and file do not need to hear that discussion.

Average every day people are not intellectuals.
They're not weighing ideas, doing peer-reviewed research, tracing the annals of history...

Set up the garage sale, the clothing drive, the canned food drive, the protest for whoever got killed by the cops this week - and do that well.

Whatever the thing is cats are trying to do - it really doesn't need more discussion, it needs more ACTION.

Not every soldier needs to be a general and war historian. And a lot of these would be generals and leaders, need to be soldiers.
