Knowledge is power :feedme:
share some tips

Since you are on the team...a quick move is to bring in donuts and juice one morning...

That is actually a lowkey power play...and will stick in peoples heads for a long time

Like just now...I just went walking around the floor with a big tub of dry roasted peanuts.....people was like :feedme:

Damn OP did not get the reception he was looking for.

This probably wasn't a big deal at all but I will say that some white dudes can be sneaky disrespectful in office situations. Almost as if as a peer you're supposed to prove your worth to them, or distinguish yourself other than being the black guy in the office. Don't read to much into it. He could've been trying to be slick with it, but in the grand scheme of things, unless he's your boss you don't have to do shyt.

To the people that matter where you work, I would definitely try to offer some input even if its just a simple suggestion.

It's a learning experience. I know it can be energy-draining to pretend to care, but use that situation you were in as motivation to not let it happen again.

You don't need to be the life of the party or even close to it, but you gotta have some energy to you. It'll get easier each time.
And whatever you do, don't give an a$$hole (there's always one) like that cac an opening. You should always be most alert/energized when you sense one is around.

Breh, unless you're in a meeting you're completely not qualified to be in, you should at least give an opinion or a feedback from someone else's opinion. If you don't have your own ideas, just piggyback off someone's idea and expand on it. Especially if it's an hour long, you gotta at least say something.

Just say some shyt like "yeah, Rob's idea is pretty good. I think that can help out especially in XYZ situations..." shyt like that.

It's not a good look just sitting there for an hour like

So I been on the coli since June 2012 and I have 112 posts, so im the definition of a lurker.. on the coli and in real life.
So our department was having a meeting with this guy from another company. He wanted to understand how our supply chain works, so we in a team of about 8, im the only black guy, the meeting lasts about an hour with everyone in our team going back and forth with the guy and im just
sitting there like :shaq2:, I said nothing the hol meeting… When the meeting is about to end the guy says “Double Up, one more word out of you and yourre outta here”. Everyone is like :lolbron:

I just give him the :beli: .
I’m just the type of guy that only talks when I’m adding value or when I have to, I won’t just talk for no reason. Why do outspoken people feel like everyone should be like them?

Honestly bruh, I feel you, but you may have done yourself a disservice there. In any business, you have to be your own strongest advocate. People rarely have time to focus on what others are doing because they have their own things to worry about and if these people don't SEE you doing anything or HEAR about your achievements, they may (will) start to believe you aren't doing anything. I've seen this happen in private industry and government and been a victim and perpetrator of this myself. I think "out of sight, out of mind" is human nature to an extent but its deeper with some than others.

That guy also might have been joking with you based on a serious concern. If he's any sort of higher up, he probably don't see you much and never hear about what you do and he could be the type that if you don't play along with him, he can take it personally. I hope I'm just overanalyzing it, but you should take note that if you can't or won't stick up or market for yourself, no one else will and that can and will cause you a great amount of hindrance in your advancement in any field

I dont like when people try to embarrass me and we're not cool, so I would have said something back, but its a meeting and you're part of the team. Say at least 3 comments, nod your head to show interest, and be done.
