Yea they did my man wrong with the movie. He was a addict with personal demons but still was well liked and personable, and i dont think they did a good job of showing the nuance. I read his auto and he was basically a unwanted child who was possibly pimped out by a fake preacher. He always presented himself in public as a gentleman and was very eloquent despite his upbringing.
