It's all about perspective really, in some ways me being 12 in like 2005 feels like yesterday but then you consider the amount of shyt in the world that's past since then and my accomplishments 
I remember being young and two months of summer vacation felt LIke an eternity, now two months is nothing to me

the billboards and barns n shyt...you're right, other than technology, this shyt is the same as it was 30 years ago

of course it's not. you drive downtown in just about any city right now, just the newer architecture, gas stations, hell even the street lights will look modern
but like i said, drive through those little rural areas with just barns, cows, haystacks and billboards? shyt looked like the 80's
it was kinda eerie feeling actually
