I've been in Toronto on and off for about a year now. Drake is a major look for the city. There was always a rap scene here but nothing like it is now and Drake's brand brings a lot of pride and $$$ into the city. The local media is unapologetically on his nuts. Remember, TO is like the 4th or 5th biggest city in North America. There are people that benefit from Toronto being a cool, trendy location and they will defend Drake to the death. It's not like New York where there's been several big rappers to emerge. There's no precedent for that in Toronto. That's why a city councillor will get involved in a rap beef lol

The "backlash" consisted a handful of articles and people being that were mildly critical of him. Which in Drake Stan terms means your a hater or want him to die or something lol.

That's awesome that Toronto shows him love but it's also fishy how much corporate backing he has. :
