Isn't there already a thread about the current state of R&B? The only reason you don't here songs like that is because ya'll stopped consuming it. I know we like to blame "the industry" & "the new generation" Same thing happened to bebop when disco was thing. Usher stop making R&B because there wasn't a market it for it. When JT dropped that pop album the same year usher did his R&B album it was a singicant difference in sales number. If you want to here music like that support the artists who make that type of music monetarily.

A lot of these bands ya'll be posting still perform and make music but they perform in smaller venues and do small numbers because the market isn't there. A lot of the R&B groups and artists from the 80's, 90's, 00 still drop albums but ya'll don't buy them or support them.

as far as the consumer side of things go, i think it just won't enough of us buyin' the music to keep a lane open for it
because as you said, there's still some artists mainstream or not who do r&b (maxwell, joe, jill scott, teedra moses, saadiq) but it's not in high demand

Yeah and also it's not as good these days. People are afraid to just sound good. They want to be experimental and unnecessarily artsy..
